High Dynamic Range Photography (HDR)

What is it?

In computer graphics and photography, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI) is a set of techniques that allows a far greater dynamic range of exposures. HDRI was originally developed for use with purely computer-generated images. Later, methods were developed to produce a high dynamic range image from a set of photographs taken with a range of exposures. With the rising popularity of digital cameras and easy to use desktop software, the term “HDR” is now popularly used to refer to the process of tone mapping together with bracketed exposures of normal digital images, giving the end result a high, often exaggerated dynamic range. ( Wikipedia )

“In contrast, our eyes, have an ability to see an astounding range of lights and darks. And that’s where so many casual photographers go wrong. When they trip the shutter, they expect to get back what their eye saw. Problem is there eye is usually seeing much, much more in the way of dynamic range than their cameras can record.” ( .. Its sometimes interesting when you change the subject. Suppose for an object then a scenery. Objects that you can play with. Move the way you want. Heidi Swanson on 101cookbook shared her views on HDR Food Photography. She have already got a group called “HDR Food Photography” on Flickr.com for those who want to share their HDR Food photographies.
