Future of Desktop Computing

Intel builds the first microprocessor, the 108 KHz 4004, using 2300 transistors and could address 640 bytes. That was a fresh start in 1971. In 1984 the Macintosh unveiled with 8 MHz processor, 128 kb RAM and a built-in BW screen is considered the first easy-to-use PC.

Apple iMac - Started everything

VAIO VGC-LS37E - imac killer?

VAIO VGC-LS37E with it’s Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor at 2.0 GHz, super-fast 667 MHz front-side bus (FSB), enormous 4 MB L2 cache, huge 320 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM), 2×1GB DDR II at 667MHz, 19-inch LCD panel has an amazing 1680 x 1050-pixel resolution and an Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 graphics card simply is equal and in most cases better than any iMac in it’s price range. Sony has made great job with this model and it’s price is excellent balance between things it offer, quality and design of the product.

HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC - with touch

The IQ770 is built around a mobile 1.6GHz dual core AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 processor, and as such has AMD’s LIVE! Media Center enhancements. Those LIVE! enhancements (like those of Intel’s Viiv) still aren’t fully realized yet, but at least they are there. The 2GB of DDR2 RAM and 320GB of hard drive space give you a lot of space to play with, which a big plus now that the system is running the Microsoft Windows Vista Premium OS.(There’s also slot for the new Pocket Media Bay drive, which is notebook-sized and increases the IQ770’s storage in 80GB and 160GB increments.) Speaking of Vista Premium, the IQ770 runs the new Media Center Interface with the new HP SmartCenter front page. Using SmartCenter on the touchscreen gives the IQ770 a kiosk feel, enhancing the interactive computer experience.

Gateway One - all in one.

Gateway has unveiled its latest all-in-one desktop PC, dubbed simply the One. Sitting somewhere between an Apple iMac and Sony’s Vaio LT series in terms of looks, the slimline 19in machine also sports a unique power-brick-cum-port-replicator.
The low-end and mid-range models both have a 1.5GHz Core 2 Duo and sport 2GB of memory. Gateway’s most basic One will have a 320GB hard drive and incorporates an Intel X3100 graphics engine, while the mid-range model has a 400GB hard drive and an AMD ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics chip with 256MB of video RAM. Gateway’s top-end One runs at 2GHz, has 3GB of memory, incorporates a 500GB capacity hard drive. It too has Mobility Radeon HD 2600 graphics.
All three have room to add a second HDD for up to 2TB of storage capacity.

Microsoft Surface - Microsoft on Business

Behind the scenes, the surface computer is a pretty elaborate setup. Under the hood is Windows Vista, although you don’t see any trace of it. A projector sits underneath the tabletop, projecting images onto it. Five video cameras observe your hand movements and relay information to the computer.
